The National Metallurgist Award, instituted by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, is open only to Indian nationals who have made significant contributions to the field of metallurgy in India through their work in industry, research and development, or academia. The award recognizes outstanding achievements in areas such as operations, research and development, waste management, and energy conservation. Individuals from industry as well as research and academic institutions are eligible to apply. The awards will be presented in the following four categories:
- Lifetime Achievement Award

Eligibility
- Lifetime Achievement Award: The applicant/nominee should have at least 20 years of experience, be minimum 50 years of age, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science or equivalent.1. National Metallurgist Award: The applicant/nominee should have at least 15 years of experience, be minimum 40 years of age, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science or equivalent.1. Young Metallurgist (Environment Science): The applicant/nominee should have at least 5 years of experience, be maximum 35 years of age, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science or equivalent.1. Young Metallurgist (Metal Science): The applicant/nominee should have at least 5 years of experience, be maximum 35 years of age, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science or equivalent.1. Award for R&D in Iron & Steel Sector: The applicant/nominee should have at least 10 years of experience, be minimum 35 years of age, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science or equivalent.
