The Dowry Prohibition Act-1961 prohibits the demand of dowry from the parents, relatives, or guardians of a bride or bridegroom. Any person found guilty of making such a demand shall face imprisonment for a term of not less than six months, which may extend to two years, along with a fine that may extend to ten thousand rupees.
