Details
The Supplementary Nutrition Programme is implemented under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) to ensure the provisions of the Food Security Act 2013 and its rules from 2015 and 2017. Beneficiaries receive quality, infection-free supplementary nutrition for 300 days a year, with specific caloric and protein standards set for different groups: children aged 6 months to 6 years receive 500 kcal and 12-15 grams of protein; underweight children in the same age group receive 800 kcal and 20-25 grams of protein; pregnant and lactating mothers receive 600 kcal and 18-20 grams of protein. Financial provisions are set at ₹8.00 per day for children aged 6 months to 6 years, ₹12.00 for underweight children, and ₹9.50 for pregnant and lactating mothers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, raw food items such as wheat, rice, and chickpeas are distributed monthly to beneficiaries. The distribution process involves allocation of wheat and rice through the Food Corporation of India, supply of chickpeas from the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), and transportation to fair price shops by the Rajasthan State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation. Anganwadi workers then distribute these items to registered beneficiaries at Anganwadi centers.
