The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme provides internship opportunities for one crore youth in India's top 500 companies over five years. Details
The scheme “Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme” was launched by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The scheme aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top 500 companies in five years. Through this Scheme, youth will gain exposure for 12 months to real-life business environment, across varied professions and employment opportunities.
The purpose of this scheme is envisaged as an arrangement between the intern and the company in which the company provides an opportunity for the intern to get training, and gain experience and skills within the real-life environment of the business or organization that helps in bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, in turn, assisting enhancement of her/his employability.
Scope:
The Scheme is separate from all the existing schemes related to skill development, apprenticeships, internship and student training programmes, etc. being implemented across all the States & UTs of India, and will run independently of all such Central/State schemes.
Internship Duration:
Duration of the Internship shall be 12 months. At least half of the internship period must be spent in the actual working experience/ job environment, and not in the classroom.

Eligibility
- The candidate belongs to Indian nationality.
- The candidate’s age should be between 21 to 24 years (as on the last date for submission of the application).
- The candidate should not be full-time employed.
- The candidate should not be engaged in full-time education.
- The candidate enrolled in online/distance learning programmes are eligible to apply.
- The candidate should be completed High School, Higher Secondary School, possess a certificate from an ITI, hold a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or are graduates with degrees such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
- The candidate family income should not exceed ₹8,00,000/-.
Exclusions
The following persons are ineligible to participate:
- Graduates from IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, and IIITs.
- Those having qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, any master's or higher degree.
- Those undergoing any skill, apprenticeship, internship or student training programme under Central Government or State Government schemes.
- Those who have completed apprenticeship, training under National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) at any point.
- If the annual income of any of the family members of the candidate exceeds ₹8 lakhs.
- If any member of the family is a permanent/regular government employee.
Note: For the purposes of the Pilot Project:
- "Family" means self, parents and spouse.
- "Government" means Central and State Governments, UT administration, Central and State PSUs, statutory organizations, local bodies etc.
- "Employee" means regular/ permanent employees but does not include contractual employees.

Registration Process:
Step 1: Visit the official website Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
Step 2: Click on “Youth Registration” on the top-right corner or “Register Now” in the PM Internship Offers section.
Step 3: Enter a mobile number linked to your Aadhaar and confirm via OTP.
Step 4: Password Setup- Use the OTP to log in and update the password upon first login.
Step 5: Profile Creation e-KYC- Required for profile completion. You can complete e-KYC through:
- DigiLocker: Connect using Aadhaar; requires your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and DigiLocker security PIN.
- Fill personal information, contact information, education, bank details, skills & languages and upload certificates.
Internship Application Process:
Step 1: Click on View & Apply Internship.
Step 2: After viewing details, if interested, click the “Apply” icon in the Action column.
Step 3: Fill all mandatory fields and Click the “Submit” icon to complete the internship application process.
Track Application:
Step 1: Go to "Track Your Application" on the candidate account page
Step 2: Use the table to see updates on offers received, accepted, or waitlisted for each internship.

- Will I get financial assistance for doing my internship?
- After joining the internship, each intern will receive monthly assistance of ₹5,000 for the entire duration of the 12-month internship.
- What is the eligibility of interns to receive initial DBT and the monthly internship allowance?
- Only those interns who have physically joined the internship, their joining is verified by HR, and they have Aadhaar Seeded Bank Account are eligible to receive the initial DBT and monthly internship allowance. Interns must complete their Aadhaar seeding process in order to receive the payments.
- Will I get travel allowances or other support during the duration of the internship?
- * Partner companies may consider providing additional financial assistance or any other facilities as per their discretion. The internships that you opt for may or may not have any other benefits attached to them. * A one-time grant ₹6,000 will be provided by the Government of India to each intern after joining the internship. This grant is to support you at the beginning of your internship journey. * Throughout your internship, you will receive monthly assistance of ₹5,000.
- Will the insurance cover continue after the internship?
- No, upon the completion of your internship the benefits of the insurance will lapse.
- Will I receive financial assistance during the sabbatical (break) period?
- Financial assistance will not be provided during the sabbatical (break) period.
- Will I get any financial assistance to purchase clothes for my internship?
- No specific financial assistance shall be provided for the purchase of clothes. However, after you join your internship, a onetime grant of ₹6000 will be transferred to your Aadhaar seeded bank account by the Government of India as financial assistance.
- Will I receive the monthly internship allowance if I discontinue the internship midway?
- No, if you withdraw/dropout from the internship before completion, you will be ineligible to receive the monthly internship allowance. You will not receive the internship completion certificate if you discontinue the internship midway.
- How many internship opportunities can I apply for?
- Candidates can apply for up to 3 internship options in one cycle, which can be selected based on their preferred location, sector and field.
- Can I change my three internship preferences on the portal?
- Yes, you are permitted to change your three preferences on the portal as many times as you want to, before the application deadline. You can choose to withdraw from any application and apply into a different one, before the application deadline closes. Post application deadline closes, you cannot make changes anymore.
- What if I am not selected for any of my three preferred opportunities?
- Candidates can reapply for the future cycles of PM Internship Scheme if he/she is not selected for any of the three applied opportunities.
- What is the maximum number of internships offers I can receive?
- A candidate can receive up to two internship offers. Once an offer is received, the candidate may accept/reject the offer within the stipulated time window. Candidates are advised to view the complete details of internship in the provisional offer letter and take the appropriate action (accept or reject the offer).
- What If I do not wish to accept the internship(s) I have been shortlisted for?
- Candidate can accept or reject their offer of internships. However, in case a candidate rejects an internship, he/she will only be able to reapply in future cycles of the PM Internship Scheme.
- If I accept an internship offer, how will I get the final offer letter?
- Your final offer letter will be uploaded on the PMIS portal, apart from being sent to your registered email address.
- Through the PM Internship Scheme, what kind of internships will I get?
- Eligible candidates will get internships in different roles across sectors including IT and Software Development, Banking and Financial Services, Oil, Gas & Energy, Metals & Mining, FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), Telecom, Infrastructure & Construction, Retail & Consumer Durables, Cement & Building Materials, Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Aviation & Defence, Manufacturing & Industrial, Chemical, Media, Entertainment & Education, Agriculture and Allied, Consulting Services, Textile Manufacturing, Gems and Jewellery, Travel & Hospitality and Healthcare.
- What kind of companies will I get to intern with?
- Selected candidates will have the opportunity to intern with the top companies from across India. Interning with these industry-leading companies will allow you to gain valuable experience, acquire new skills, and build important professional networks. The Company can also provide internship in its forward and backward supply chain and in other companies in its Group or otherwise
- What is the duration of the internship?
- Internships under the PM Internship Scheme will be for a duration of one year (12 months).
- Will I be sitting in a classroom during my internship?
- At least half of the internship period (6 months) must be spent in the actual working experience/ job environment, and not in the classroom. While a certain part of the internship will include relevant training, a significant duration (at least 6 months) of your internship will focus on real-world experience in professional setups.
- Will I get a job after my internship?
- The PM Internship Scheme provides a valuable opportunity to learn and enhance your skills by working with top companies in India. While the scheme does not guarantee a job upon completion, the knowledge, practical experience, and professional networks you develop during the internship will significantly enhance your career prospects.
- Can international candidates apply for the PM Internship Scheme?
- No, international candidates are not eligible to apply for the PM Internship Scheme.
- Can I apply for an internship opportunity if I am enrolled in an online/distance/ correspondence course?
- Yes, Candidates enrolled in online/ distance/correspondence learning programmes are eligible to apply.
- I am ineligible to apply because of my age. Can you please relax the age criteria?
- As of now, the age criteria for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme are 21-24 years. If there is any relaxation in the age criteria in the future, we will communicate the same on the portal.
