विवरण

Launched on April 1, 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana- Gramin was initiated to strengthen the Indira Awas Yojana. The grant amount has been increased from ₹70,000 to ₹1,20,000, with a provision for a 60:40 cost-sharing between the central and state governments. Beneficiaries can receive up to ₹1,49,800 for housing construction, which includes ₹19,800 as wages for 90 unskilled labor days under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme. Eligibility is based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data, prioritizing families without housing or living in inadequate housing who have not benefited from other housing schemes. The scheme also includes provisions for kitchen construction, with a minimum area of 25 square meters (267 square feet) for the house. Beneficiaries must complete construction within one year and register their mobile number for the application process. The grant is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account through the PFMS system. The scheme has seen significant progress, with a high percentage of housing completions against set targets.
