Launched on April 1, 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana- Gramin was initiated to strengthen the Indira Awas Yojana. The grant amount has been increased from ₹70,000 to ₹1,20,000, with a provision for a 60:40 cost-sharing between the central and state governments. Beneficiaries can receive up to ₹1,49,800 for housing construction, which includes ₹19,800 as wages for 90 unskilled labor days under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme.
