Details
The Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana aims to develop sustainable models of organic farming by integrating traditional knowledge with modern science. The increasing use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides has led to a rise in harmful substances in the soil and environment, adversely affecting soil fertility and human health. This centrally sponsored scheme has a funding ratio of 60% from the central government and 40% from the state government. It is based on the PGS (Participatory Guarantee System) and cluster approach, requiring all farmers in selected clusters to register on the PGS India portal. Each crop season, local groups evaluate the participation of all farmers to ensure that no prohibited agricultural inputs are used for organic farming. Based on the participation evaluation reports, a summary sheet is prepared and uploaded to the portal, and organic certification is forwarded to the Deputy Director of Agriculture for issuance. The regional council issues organic certificates to all farmers based on the evaluation report, allowing them to market their organic products through the market and organic farming portal. The implementation of the scheme has been ongoing in all districts since 2018-19, with a financial target of ₹158.10 crores for the year 2020-21. This cluster-based scheme covers an area of 20 hectares and can include between 10 to 50 farmers. Selection of farmers is done by the relevant Deputy Director of Agriculture in the district.
