The “Mhaji Bus Scheme” was launched by the Department of Transport, Government of Goa. The scheme aims to provide financial and infrastructural support to private stage carriage bus operators in the State of Goa to ensure an affordable, safe, and reliable public transportation system, increase the availability of buses across the State, reduce traffic congestion, and promote the use of public transport, especially in rural and underserved areas. The scheme provides a subsidy of ₹3/- per kilometer operated, 50% reimbursement of the annual insurance premium paid up to a maximum of ₹30,000/-, and assistance of ₹10,00,000/- for replacing buses older than 15 years with new buses having a minimum seating capacity of 27.

Benefits

  • - A subsidy of ₹3/- per kilometer operated shall be provided to eligible bus operators under the scheme
  • Bus Insurance Subsidy is provided as 50% reimbursement of the annual insurance premium paid up to a maximum of ₹30,000/-

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a private bus operator holding a valid stage carriage permit issued by the competent authority in Goa.
  • The applicant must be the registered owner of the bus/mini bus in the State of Goa.
  • The bus to be operated under this scheme must not be older than 15 years from the date of its initial registration.
  • The applicant must agree to comply with all operational, branding, safety, and service norms specified under this scheme.
  • The bus must operate for the full month.
  • If the bus is off the road, prior intimation must be given to the competent authority.

Relaxation

  • For the initial period of 3 years, buses up to 20 years should be eligible to participate in this scheme.
  • The bus can be kept for repairs and maintenance for two days only, which should be Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

Application Process

Offline

Step 1: The interested applicant should take a printout of the prescribed format of the application forms (Annexure A, B, C).
Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, paste the passport-sized photograph (signed across, if required), and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).
Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the documents, within the prescribed period (if any), to the Managing Director, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited, Paraiso Goa Building, Alto-Porvorim, Bardez, Goa - 403 521.

Post-Application Processes

Step 1:**** The applications shall undergo verification by the General Manager or any other officer appointed specifically for the Mhaji Bus Scheme. Field inspections may be conducted by the authorities wherever deemed necessary to assess the claims and verify the bus’s details and compliance status.
Step 2:**** Upon successful verification and approval of the application, the applicant shall be issued an official Letter of Empanelment. Following this, the applicant must sign a formal Agreement with the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited outlining their operational and service obligations under the scheme.
