The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is an employment guarantee scheme implemented in India, enacted by legislation on September 7, 2005. This scheme provides 100 days of employment each financial year to the adult members of any rural household who are willing to do unskilled manual work at a statutory minimum wage of ₹221 per day. Under this scheme, 100% of the funds for unskilled labor are released by the central government, while 25% of the funds for material costs are released by the state government and 75% by the central government.
