The Mahatma Gandhi Janbhagidari Vikas Yojana was launched in the year 2010-11 with the aim of ensuring local community participation in the development, job creation, and construction of community assets in rural areas of the state. In 2014-15, the scheme was renamed Guru Golwalkar Janbhagidari Vikas Yojana. On February 6, 2020, in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the name was changed to Mahatma Gandhi Janbhagidari Vikas Yojana.
