Domain-specific Centres of Excellence

Brief

MeitY had envisaged and operationalized a clutch of Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in diverse areas of national interest pan India providing a focal point for knowledge management, driving self-sufficiency, and creating capabilities to capture new and emerging technology areas. These domain-specific Centres of Excellence (CoEs) are made operational with the participation of MeitY, STPI, State Governments, Industries, and VCs.

Tenure

• Over a period of 5 years from 07.12.2018 (ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL) i.e valid till 07.12.2023. subject to extension

• The MeitY has envisaged and operationalized 26 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in diverse areas of national interest for driving self-sufficiency and creating capabilities to capture new and emerging technology areas. These domain-specific CoEs act as enablers and aid in making India an innovation hub in emerging through the democratization of innovation and realization of prototypes.

• COE in FinTech at STPI-Chennai provides infrastructure, resources, coaching mentorship, technology support, and funding to emerging startups in the FinTech sector.
• The IoT OpenLab intends to support 500 startups over a period of 5 years in the IoT to develop disruptive applications, products, and or services and give networking opportunities to the startups.
• The ESDM Incubation Centre at Bhubaneswar supports the creation of a holistic eco-system to promote ESDM innovation, R&D and help generate intellectual property in the eastern region.
• Medi-Electronics & Health Informatics CoE at SGPGI Lucknow has been established to stimulate the establishment and growth of technology-based startups in the field of medical electronics and health informatics by providing the necessary infrastructure, mentoring, marketing, funding, and eco-system.
• The aim of the Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Property is to encourage the growth of IP in ICT by way of creating a conducive framework for the identification, protection, and monetization of IPRs.
