The scheme “Construction of Artesian Wells in Scheduled Tribe Areas” was launched by the Department of Minor Irrigation, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme aims to provide free irrigation facilities to farmers in Scheduled Tribe-dominated areas through the construction of artesian wells, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity. It is a 100% state government-funded scheme.

Eligibility
- The beneficiary must be a resident of Uttarakhand.
- The beneficiary must be a farmer engaged in agricultural activities.
- Collective irrigation projects will be constructed under the scheme.
- The name of the proposed village must be included in the list of Scheduled Tribe-dominated villages issued by the Department of Social Welfare.
- The project site must be suitable for the construction of artesian wells.
- A sufficient irrigated area must be available for the project.
- The project cost must not exceed ₹4.00 lakh per hectare, and the benefit-cost ratio must be greater than 1.0.

Application Process
Offline
- Generally, only certain selected areas of Udham Singh Nagar district and some areas of Nainital district are suitable for the construction of artesian wells. The proposal may be submitted to the Division, Sub-Division, or other departmental offices through the Gram Sabha, Gram Panchayat, District Panchayat, or other authorized channels. Based on site inspection and the suitability of the received proposals, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared.
- After examination by the departmental TAC, the DPR is forwarded to the headquarters. After which the proposal is sent to the government for approval. The construction work of the projects is initiated after receiving financial approval from the Government.
