Combined Merit Scholarship

The scheme "Combined Merit Scholarship" by the Higher Education Department, Government of Assam, aims to provide financial assistance to students of Assam studying in first semester degree courses and master's degree courses in any recognized colleges or universities in the state and other states of the country, focusing on students with uniformly good academic records and at least 60% marks in last qualifying examinations. The scheme provides access to poor students of the state and helps them achieve the benefits of higher education through merit-based scholarship support for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The applicant must be selected and admitted in degree or master's degree courses in any recognized universities or colleges and must be domiciled in Assam. The scheme is implemented by Higher Education Department. The applications for this scheme are accepted online.

Financial Assistance

• For Degree Courses: ₹300/- per month.
• For Master Degree Courses: ₹500/- per month.
• The scheme provides 200 scholarships for degree students (three years duration) and 100 scholarships for master degree students (two years duration).

Selection: Based on merit and budget allocation.
Coverage: Students pursuing general degree and master degree courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce disciplines.

Mode of Disbursement

Mode: Direct Benefit Transfer system.
Conditions: Subject to selection by the selection committee and financial sanction approval.

Conditions for Availment

• The applicant must maintain enrollment in the respective degree or master's degree course throughout the scholarship period.
• Academic performance standards must be maintained as per institutional and scheme requirements.
• Regular attendance and compliance with all institutional rules and regulations.
• Bank account must remain active and updated for Direct Benefit Transfer disbursement.

• The applicant must be pursuing general degree or master's degree courses in Arts, Science, or Commerce discipline in any recognized institution.
• The applicant must be domiciled in Assam (Permanent Resident Certificate document mandatory).
• The applicant must have obtained minimum 60% marks in Higher Secondary examination for those applying for Combined Merit Degree Scholarship scheme.
• The applicant must have obtained minimum 60% marks in General Degree (Three Year Degree Course) examination for those applying for Combined Merit Master Degree Scholarship scheme.
• The applicant must possess relevant qualification from any recognized institution.
• The applicant must have a valid bank account in their name (preferably in State Bank of India).

Online

Step 1: Online Application Submission
Visit the official website of the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Assam, and complete the online application form within the specified application period with all required personal, academic, and bank account details.
Step 2: Document Upload and Verification
Upload scanned copies of all required documents including Permanent Resident Certificate, mark sheets, institutional certificate, photograph, and signature as per the prescribed format and specifications.
Step 3: Application Form Printout
After successful online submission, take a printout of the completed application form and ensure all information is accurate and complete before proceeding to the next step.
Step 4: Physical Submission to Institution
Submit the printed application form along with necessary copies of certificates and testimonials to the Registrar, Principal, or Head of the Institution where currently enrolled for verification and forwarding.
Step 5: Institutional Verification and Forwarding
The Registrar, Principal, or Head of the Institution will collect, verify, and submit the hard copies of online forms along with all relevant certificates and testimonials under their seal and signature to the Directorate of Higher Education, Assam, Kahilipara, Guwahati - 781019.
Step 6: Selection Process
The selection committee will evaluate applications strictly on the basis of merit in all cases and selection will be restricted as per budget allocation for the respective categories.
Step 7: Benefit Disbursement
Selected beneficiaries will receive scholarship amounts through Direct Benefit Transfer system directly to their registered bank accounts on a monthly basis.
