The Swami Vivekanand Government Model School Scheme was initiated in the state in the academic year 2014-15 to operate model schools in educationally backward areas. Currently, 134 model schools are operational in 134 blocks out of 186 educationally backward blocks in the state. These schools are affiliated with CBSE, New Delhi, and are designed to serve as Centers of Excellence in these backward areas. The scheme aims to establish at least one model school in each backward block, develop these schools as reference centers, and promote the overall personality development of students. The scheme also reserves 55% of seats for girls to encourage female education.
