The SMID component aims to mobilize urban poor households into a three-tiered structure consisting of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the grassroots level (10 to 20 members), Area Level Federations (ALFs) at the slum ward level (10 to 20 SHGs), and City Level Federations (CLFs) at the city level. The scheme provides loans for SHGs, with a maximum project cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. City Livelihoods Centres (CLCs) enable the urban poor to offer their goods and services in an organized manner to potential buyers, while also providing access to information and business support services.
Benefits
- - One-time Revolving Fund support of Rs. 10,000 for urban poor SHGs
- One-time Revolving Fund support of Rs. 50,000 for registered Area Level Federations (ALFs)
- Interest subsidy on loans for group enterprises (maximum project cost of Rs. 10 lakhs) with subsidized loans at 7% per annum
- Additional 3% per annum interest subvention for Women SHGs (WSHGs) subject to timely repayment
- Each CLC will receive a non-recurring grant of Rs. 10 lakhs as an untied fund

Eligibility
Any urban poor individual or group can apply. There are no specific income limits or educational qualifications required. The scheme is applicable to all urban areas.
