Details

The Scheduled Caste Hostel Scheme in Uttar Pradesh was established to comply with post-independence welfare policies aimed at promoting educational opportunities for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This initiative aligns with the Indian Constitution's Directive Principles of State Policy and Fundamental Rights, ensuring social justice. The scheme has established a total of 264 hostels (189 for boys and 75 for girls), with 223 currently operational. It aims to provide free residential accommodation to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students pursuing higher education, particularly those traveling long distances from rural areas to urban centers. The scheme addresses housing challenges and promotes higher education rates by offering free housing, furniture, electricity, and sports facilities to talented students from low-income families.
