Details

The Rajasthan Senior Approved Journalist Honors Scheme was implemented in March 2020, following the budget announcement for the year 2019-20. Under this scheme, approved journalists aged 60 years and above are eligible to receive a monthly honorarium of ₹5,000. In a meeting chaired by the Honorable Chief Minister on September 12, 2020, it was decided to increase the honorarium to ₹10,000 per month starting January 2021. Further, during the budget discussion in the Rajasthan Assembly on March 4, 2021, it was announced that from April 2021, the honorarium would be increased to ₹15,000 per month. This amount will be provided under specific rules and conditions: full-time approved journalists who have worked for at least 20 years in daily, weekly, or fortnightly newspapers, independent journalism, electronic media, and news agencies, and who are aged 60 years or older, will receive ₹15,000 per month. This honorarium will only be given to journalists who do not receive any salary, pension, or regular assistance from any newspaper or institution, or any other regular assistance from the state government. Approved journalists who have been recognized by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Rajasthan, for at least 10 years will be eligible for this scheme. The widow of a deceased approved journalist who was sanctioned an honorarium under the Rajasthan Senior Journalist Honors Scheme will receive half of the sanctioned amount monthly. Approved journalists must submit an affidavit on a ₹50 stamp paper stating that they are not in the income tax payer category and must open a savings account in their name at a bank to receive the funds. The approval committee formed by the Department of Information and Public Relations will review the applications and make recommendations. If the conduct of the beneficiary is found to be contrary to the accepted principles and standards of journalism, or if any criminal case is registered against them, their eligibility may be revoked. The honorarium can be terminated at any time after approval. The honorarium will initially be provided for a period of 5 years.
