The Provident Fund Scheme was made mandatory for all state employees who were declared ineligible for the state insurance scheme starting from April 1, 1954. The maintenance of accounts for mandatory General Provident Fund deductions for voluntarily contributing and ineligible employees was taken over by the department from the Accountant General on April 1, 1979, and has been continuously managed by the department since then. The scheme was made mandatory for all state employees, including those in Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishads, from May 1, 1980, with the aim of providing benefits to all state employees. However, this scheme does not apply to employees appointed on or after January 1, 2004. The recently implemented voluntary scheme is effective from October 12, 2021, under the rewritten Rajasthan Government Employee Provident Fund Rules, 2021.
