The National Technology Day, celebrated annually on May 11th, commemorates India's significant milestones in technological advancement. This date holds particular significance as it coincides with:
- 1998 Pokhran nuclear test: A momentous achievement in India's defense and technological capabilities.
- Hansa-3 aircraft test flight: Marking India's progress in the field of aviation.
- Trishul missile test firing: Demonstrating India's advancements in missile technology.
To recognize and encourage further contributions, the National Technology Awards are presented on this day. These awards celebrate the commercialization and development of indigenous technologies across various categories:
- National Technology Award (Main): Honors successful commercialization of indigenous technology by an industrial concern since April 2017.- National Technology Awards (MSME): Recognizes MSMEs who have successfully commercialized a product based on indigenous technology since April 2017. (Three awards given)- National Technology Awards (Start-up): Acknowledges the potential of promising new technologies from start-ups for future commercialization. (Five awards given)- National Technology Awards (Translational Research): Applauds the contribution of scientists in bringing innovative indigenous technologies to market. (Two awards given)- National Technology Awards (Technology Business Incubators): Celebrates outstanding contributions in fostering techno-entrepreneurship and supporting innovative technology-driven startups. (One award given)

Eligibility
For National Technology Award (Main), MSME & Start-up
- Only private and Public limited companies Registered under companies Act 1956/2013 at Registrar of Companies (ROC) may apply.
- Under technology startup category, only startup with DPIIT registration to be considered eligible.
- Women-led enterprise as per Government of India norms.
For National Technology Award (Translational Research)
- Regular position in Indian Institute of repute.
- Patents / Technology transfer / Licensed to Indian Industry.
- Technology commercialized by the Industry partner and Earning revenue.
- Socio- economic Impact of the Innovation
National Technology Awards (Technology Business Incubators)
- TBI- Application are invited from Indian organizations/ Institutions such as science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park, Technology parks, Technology business Incubators, Incubation Centers, Software Technology Parks etc. actively involved in nurturing technology-based startups through business incubation processes aided by specialized infrastructure, technical support, mentoring, business facilities, marketing, financial, legal and investment services.
- TBI - Organization should be in operation for more than 5 years (i.e. registered on or before March, 2017) (This award is only for organizations (not for profit entity) and not for an individual. Application for award received from an individual will not be considered.

- Non-profit entities or individuals.
- LLPs, proprietorships, etc.
