Details

The Mahatma Gandhi English Medium School scheme was initiated to provide English medium education to government students in the states, aiming to alleviate the burden of high fees in private schools and ensure quality education for students from lower socio-economic backgrounds in government schools. This scheme is only two academic sessions old and is still in the expansion phase, as the public interest from parents is very encouraging. The government has decided to invest optimal resources from quality faculty who can teach effectively in English medium. Currently, there are 205 English medium schools operating at the district and block levels, with plans to increase this number by 1200 in the next two years. The government has also decided to convert 348 more government schools into Mahatma Gandhi Government Schools (English Medium), starting from the academic session 2021-22, with an announcement to open one thousand Mahatma Gandhi English Medium Schools in both urban and rural areas.
