Launched on 2nd February 2006, the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is a significant initiative aimed at promoting pro-poor growth. It provides rural communities with not only a development program but also a regime of rights. The act guarantees 100 days of employment in a financial year to any rural household whose adult members are willing to engage in unskilled manual work.
