Details
The Khadi Kamgar Arthik Protshan scheme aims to address the declining number of khadi spinners and weavers in Rajasthan due to insufficient wages. Many rural spinners are attracted to the MGNREGA scheme, which offers higher wages compared to khadi work. The wages for khadi spinners are lower than the market rates and minimum wage standards. Most of the khadi spinners in the state are women from rural areas, registered with certified khadi institutions, who work from home using spinning wheels. Historically, the wages for khadi workers were higher than those in the unorganized sector, attracting more individuals to khadi work. However, as wages in the unorganized sector have gradually increased, the wages for khadi workers have not kept pace, leading to a decline in the number of khadi workers. Despite the growing demand for eco-friendly khadi products, the low wages have resulted in a continuous decrease in the workforce. The scheme proposes to increase the wages of khadi spinners without affecting the cost of khadi production, thereby improving their economic situation and making their livelihoods easier. This initiative is expected to boost khadi production and attract more individuals back to khadi work.
