Details
Launched in 2013-14, the scheme "District Level Sports School" by the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, Government of Gujarat, aims to provide intensive sports training and quality education to young athletes by establishing district-level sports schools under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The scheme seeks to identify sporting talent from events such as Khel Mahakumbh and train them using modern infrastructure, scientific methods, expert coaching, and proper nutrition, while ensuring access to formal school education. The initiative began with 9 schools (6 residential and 3 non-residential), and expanded to 24 schools by 2017-18, catering to over 2,500 students in 21 sports disciplines. Selected athletes receive benefits such as accommodation, food, school uniforms, books, sports kits, and equipment. An average of ₹2.25 lakh is spent per player annually, including ₹1 lakh Mediclaim security. The scheme is implemented by the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG).

Eligibility
- The applicant should be below 14 years of age.
- The applicant must qualify under one of the following categories:
Proven Talent (PT):
- The applicant should have already performed at School Games Federation of India (SGFI), State-level, or National-level sports events.
- The applicant must participate in a selection camp for final admission.
Young Talent (YT):
- The applicant should have participated and secured first place at Taluka/District/Corporation level in Khel Mahakumbh (Under-9 or Under-11 category).
- The applicant must register for Khel Mahakumbh and undergo the selection process.
In-School Talent:
- The applicant should be identified within a school already running the DLSS program.

Application Process
Offline
For Young Talent:
Step 1: The applicant must register under the Khel Mahakumbh before reaching 13 years of age.
Step 2: Upon qualifying, the names are registered automatically by the authorities for the next stage of selection.
For Proven Talent:
Step 1: The applicant must send an email to dlss.sag@gmail.com with basic details like age, academic standard, game, and achievements.
Step 2: The authorities will process the application and contact the candidate for further steps.
