The “Development Scheme for Fisheries” scheme has been implemented by the Department of Fisheries, UT Administration of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. The scheme aims to provide common facilities for the development of the fisheries sector in Daman & Diu. Through this scheme, back-ended financial assistance in the form of subsidies is provided to registered Fisheries Co-operative Societies, Insurance Companies, boat owners, fishermen, and entrepreneurs of Daman & Diu. It supports the setting up of cold storage units, fish preservation and processing plants, solar fish dryer plants, ice-making machines on fishing vessels, and modernization of fishing boats. Consultants such as the National Fisheries Development Board and Marine Products Export Development Authority are engaged for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports. The scheme also provides group insurance coverage for fishing vessels through a jointly created corpus fund. All benefits under the scheme are provided as back-ended subsidies subject to prescribed conditions.

For Insurance of the fishing boats:**

  • To provide the insurance coverage for the fishing vessels, a combined corpus fund would be made for Daman & Diu by paying one time 50% amount by the boat owners through Coop. Society and 50% by the Govt. each.
  • The corpus fund would be kept in the Nationalised Bank by opening a joint account in the name of the Secretary (Fisheries) and the Fisheries Co-operative Society.
  • The fund shall be used to provide assistance to boat owners of Daman & Diu only in case of total loss of their registered fishing boat.
  • The insurance /corpus fund will provide minimum insurance coverage of the multiple of ₹1 lakh each, by paying ₹ 1000/- by the owner of the boat and ₹ 1000/- by the Government.
  • Under this Scheme all the boat owners of Daman & Diu should compulsorily be covered. The 50% amount shall be paid only one time by the boat owner and Govt.

For Insurance of the fishing boats:

Eligibility

  1. The applicant should be the owner of a fishing vessel registered in Daman & Diu under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
  2. The applicant should possess a valid Vessel Registration Certificate, issued as per online registration under the National Portal “Realcraft”.
  3. The applicant should be an active fisherman.
  4. The applicant should be a resident of Daman & Diu.
  5. The applicant should possess a valid identity proof.
  6. The applicant should be engaged in fisheries-related activities.
  7. The applicant’s fishing boat should be operated only from Daman District or Diu District.
  8. Only such fishing boats operated from Daman or Diu District shall be eligible for back-ended subsidy, assistance, or benefits under the scheme.
  9. The applicant may be a Registered Fisheries Co-operative Society, Insurance Company, boat owner, beneficiary, or entrepreneur of Daman & Diu.
  10. Such applicants shall be eligible for back-ended subsidy or assistance for setting up cold storage, fish preservation or processing plant, fish solar dryer, modernisation of fishing vessels, and installation of ice-making machines on fishing boats.
  11. The applicant, being a boat owner of Daman & Diu, should be compulsorily covered under the insurance scheme for fishing boats.

Insurance-Specific Eligibility Conditions:

  1. The applicant should contribute 50% of the insurance corpus amount on a one-time basis through the Fisheries Co-operative Society.
  2. The remaining 50% contribution shall be paid by the Government.
  3. The corpus fund shall be used only in case of total loss of a registered fishing boat belonging to Daman & Diu.
