Details

The scheme “Bharat Steel Awards” has been implemented by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. It aims to honour organisations and individuals for exemplary performance and significant contributions to the Indian steel sector. Through this scheme, recognition in the form of awards and incentives is provided to steel companies, industry teams, and individuals contributing to sectoral growth and transformation.

  • 1. Each award is provided in the form of a Certificate, a trophy, and a Cash Prize
  • Efficiency Award: ₹1,00,000/-, applicable only to Secondary Steel Producers. - Innovation Through Research and Development Award: ₹1,00,000/-, applicable only to Secondary Steel Producers. - Exceptional Contribution in Steel Sector Award (Individual Category): ₹3,00,000/- per award. 1. The cash prize is applicable only to awardees under the Small Scale Industry (SSI) category and the Individual category. The cash prize is not applicable to Integrated Steel Producers (ISPs). Number of Awardees : 12

Eligibility

  1. The applicant must be an Indian steel company, team, or individual, as applicable under the award category.

Eligibility for Company and Team Categories:

(Applicable for Efficiency Award, Export Award, Sustainability Award, Indigenization Award, Innovation Through Research and Development Award, and Safety Award)

  1. The applicant must be an Indian Steel Company or Team, whether a Public Sector Undertaking or a Private Sector.
  2. The applicant must fall under one of the following production categories based on crude steel production capacity:
  • Large Scale Producers: Production capacity greater than 1 Million Tonnes Per Annum.
  • Secondary Steel Producers: Production capacity less than 1 Million Tonnes Per Annum.

Exceptional Contribution Award:

  1. The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  2. The applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent qualification.
  3. The applicant must have made an exceptional and transformative contribution to the Indian steel sector.
  4. The contribution may include pioneering research, technological development, policy advocacy, industry leadership, or lifetime service.
  5. The contribution must have a demonstrable impact in the past 10 years.
  6. The applicant's age must be 25-60 years.

Application Process

Online

Step 1: The applicant or nominating authority should visit the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at https://awards.gov.in to access the Bharat Steel Awards nomination process.
Step 2: The applicant should access the Bharat Steel Awards from the award list. The option “Nominate / Apply Now” is displayed at the top. The applicant should click on this option to proceed. A new page opens where the applicant should select “Apply Now” in to Portal.
Step 3: The applicant should register the organisation or team on the Bharat Steel Awards portal by providing details such as the selected award, category, organisation name, establishment year, Public Sector Undertaking or Private status, representative or team representative details, registered email ID, mobile number, Permanent Account Number, and captcha, and then submit the application by selecting “Apply Now”.

Selection Process:

  1. The selection Committee for the awards is constituted with the approval of the Chairman, Award making Authority & Secretary Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India. The Award Making Authority (AMA) shall comprise the following members:
  • Secretary Ministry of Steel : Chairman
  • Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel : Member
  • Two Experts from Steel industry (to be nominated by Secretary , MoS) : Member
  • Research Organizations (to be nominated by Secretary , MoS) : Member No member of the Authority shall participate in the deliberations of the AMA if he/she is a candidate of an award.
  1. There shall be a Screening Committee of Experts (SCE) constituted by the Chairman of the Award Making Authority.
  2. The Screening Committee shall scrutinise the applications & supporting documents and accept or reject applications based on the eligibility conditions and submit consolidated report of applications Award Making Authority (AMA).
  3. While considering for Exceptional Contribution Award for an exceptional and transformative contribution to the Indian Steel Sector, the Award Making authority, if deemed necessary, may consider the name of any renowned Engineer/Technologist/academician with high credentials.
  4. The composition of various selection committees, proceedings of the meetings and the procedure for consideration of the nominations, other than as detailed herein will be kept confidential.
  5. The decision of the Award Making Authority shall be final and binding on all. Canvassing in any form during the selection procedure would lead to permanent disqualification of the nominees/organization
