Details
The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) aims to provide basic services such as water supply, sewerage, and urban transport to households, enhancing the quality of life for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged. The mission ensures that every household has access to a tap with a reliable water supply and a sewerage connection. It also focuses on increasing the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well-maintained open spaces, as well as reducing pollution through public transport and facilities for non-motorized transport. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has established Service Level Benchmarks (SLBs) to guide these efforts. The priority of the mission is water supply, followed by sewerage, with a gradual approach to achieving universal coverage and other benchmarks, termed 'incrementalism'. This approach also aims to reduce urban pollution and manage stormwater to prevent flooding, thereby enhancing city resilience.
